The Day of Atonement

The Day of Atonement

The Day of Atonement, also known as Yom Kippur, continued to be kept by the Apostles until after the close of scripture. It was expected for all who accepted Yeshua as the Messiah, Jesus as the Christ if you prefer, to keep the fast until His return. This message explains Yom Kippur in a New Testament context complete with some prophetic significance.

  1. Yom Kippur 2024 it’s true: under Leviticus 16, 23 the sacrifice was to Cover the sins of the people; under the New Testament the sacrifice is to take away, purge the sins of the people Hebrews 1:3, 10:12, 9:26. Jesus himself, his crucified body and blood became the Veil in the heavenly temple Hebrews 10:19-20, and his blood has been sprinkled on our hearts cleansing our evil conscience and we have been washed with pure water that we may serve in the heavenly temple, even as Aaron and his sons were washed with water to serve in the earthly temple Exodus 30:19-21: Hebrews 10:22.

  2. Leviticus 16,23 the sacrifice Covered the sins of the people; Jesus’s sacrifice purged, took away the sins of the people Hebrews 9:36, 1:3, 10:12: his body and blood became the heaven’s Veil in the temple Hebrews 10:19-20, his blood cleans our hearts from an evil conscience and our bodies are washed with pure water ( preparing us for temple service Hebrews 10:22, Exodus 30:19-21

  3. Jesus’s blood is our intercessor, even as Abel’s ( of Cain & Abel Genesis 4 ) blood Cried out from the ground Genesis 4:10 [ Abel’s blood was from a lifeless body having a limited time of speaking; Jesus’s blood is from an eternal body which has an eternal priesthood and so intercedes everlastingly for those who come to God through Jesus Christ Hebrews 7:24,25 ( Jesus’s mortal body must ( and did ) put on an immortal incorruptible body 1st Corinthians 15:53 [ having no blood 1st Corinthians 15:50 ‘flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God’ ] ) Luke 24:39!

  4. Jesus’s mortal body covered with his immortal ( swallowed up of Life, an house made not with hands 2nd Corinthians 5:1-4) body 1st Corinthians 15:53 of flesh and bones assures us that Jesus Christ is not now a spirit Luke 24:39, 1st Corinthians 15:53 ( for what spirit would have a mortal earthly body under his immortal body?).
Jesus Christ became a life giving spirit, even as do Christians when they have Eternal Life, when he was given to have Eternal Life to the same extent as the Father has [ the Father has the power to give Eternal Life to those who believe in him John 5:24 ] ( Jesus Christ Now has the ability to give Eternal Life to them that believe on him John 5:26 > John 6:47 ) [ Christians have Eternal Life; it’s not shown that we have Eternal Life to the same depth as has the Father and now the Son Jesus Christ ].
When Jesus was given Eternal Life as has the Father this was the Father showing that Jesus had pleased the standard the Father had set Colossians 1:19 ‘it pleased ( showing a standard had been achieved ) that IN HIM he SHOULD [ should meaning a time when should not ] ALL FULNESS DWELL = Colossians 2:9!that it Could Be Written ‘for IN HIM Dwells all the Fullness of the Godhead Bodily ( not Spiritually but Bodily! )

  5. I wrote earlier that we become a life giving spirit, which is an error. We become a spirit man, not a life giving spirit man. We know that we become a spirit man spiritually because we sit in the heavenlies in Christ Ephesians 2:6, even while we are in our earthly bodies and our conversation ( living ) is in heaven (? Scripture?). [ when our spirit of man goes to God who gave it Ecclesiastes 12:7 we also receive our house made not with hands but not yet our immortal body put on our mortal body, as has Christ Jesus because he is the firstborn from the dead Colossians 1:18, 1:15(2), Revelation 3:14(3), never to die again Acts 13:34. Only at our bodily resurrection will we have our immortal body put on our earthly body, the redemption of our body Romans 8:19-23, the salvation of our souls 1st Peter 1:9, even though our departed spirit is said to be our soul, because of having our house made without hands swallowing us up of life Revelation 6:9-10, 2nd Corinthians 5:1-4. I think.
