The State of the dead is a doctrine that blesses us to understand the bible from Genesis to Revelation. Most believers shudder to think of being part of a one-world pagan religion, so it will come as a shock to learn that the majority of the world believes in eternal souls due to paganism, a fact that is not in doubt. This message is not meant to be comprehensive, but to illustrate the basic belief of the first century Christians and how the doctrine of eternal souls is ultimately incompatible with scripture.

Thank you for this. I’ve always accepted that life ends at the grave until the resurrection during the Messianic millennial reign but I’ve more recently become confused because of Paul’s writings regarding the transformation in a twinkling of an eye to a heavenly afterlife including a comment regarding heaven by;Yeshua himself & the events that took place at the physical death of Yeshua at Calvary where the graves were opened & the dead were seen walking in the vicinity. The only conclusion I was able to arrive at was perhaps the significance of the death of Yeshua where the supernatural events took place including the rending of the temple curtain separating the Most Holy compartment & taking into account the tombs being opened & the dead walking could there then have been a shift in the death condition that would explain Paul’s commentary ?
Thanks Lisa. When Paul wrote about changing in the twinkling of an eye, he added “at the last trump” which makes it a future changing. I understand those who “will not all sleep” being the faithful alive at the return of Yeshua. This is referencing 1 Cor 15.
The people who came out of the tombs at His death are a complete mystery. It’s good to know that people who lived prior to Yeshua are considered worthy of salvation but scripture doesn’t say what happened to these folks or anything. We all wish it did!
