The Law

We’ll allow scripture to speak for itself in regard to The Law of God, handed to Moses, and spoken of throughout The Bible (Yeshua/Jesus’ words in red):

“Do not think that I have come to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I have not come to destroy but to fulfill. For truly I say to you, Till the heaven and the earth pass away, not one jot or one tittle shall in any way pass from the law until all is fulfilled. Therefore whoever shall break one of these commandments, the least, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of Heaven. But whoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of Heaven. For I say to you that unless your righteousness shall exceed that of the scribes and Pharisees, you shall in no case enter into the kingdom of Heaven.”(Matthew 5:17-20)

“For if you had believed Moses, you would have believed Me, for he wrote of Me. But if you do not believe his writings, how shall you believe My words?” (John 5:46-47)

“And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.” (Deuteronomy 6:5)

“Master, which is the great commandment in the Law? Jesus said to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment.” (Matthew 22: 36-38)

“Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the works of the law. Or is He the God of the Jews only, and not also of the nations? Yes, of the nations also, since it is one God who will justify circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith. Do we then make the Law void through faith? Let it not be! But we establish the Law.” (Romans 3:28-31)

“Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God. And everyone who loves Him who begets also loves him who has been born of Him. By this we know that we love the children of God, whenever we love God and keep His commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments, and His commandments are not burdensome. For everything that has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that overcomes the world, our faith. Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?” (1 John 5:1-5)

Here’s a more detailed message on the gravity of not being found following Torah when the Messiah returns.

“Depart from me, I never knew you” is a terrifying statement. Imagine the people the Messiah is referencing here living what they thought were Godly lives but being found enemies at His return. Yesterday’s message was about how to avoid that fate.

  1. Indeed the Law is established in that it judges us as sinners in need of a Saviour. The commandments spoken of in John are that we Love one another as Christ loves us and to believe on the name of Jesus Christ. 11 For this is the message that you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. . . . 16 By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and ewe ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. 17 But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him? 18 Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth. . . . and the second commandment is By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and ewe ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. 17 But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him? 18 Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth. to recap John – the commandments we are to keep are that we are to love one another by laying down our lives for each other – bearing one another’s burdens Gal 6:2 for this is the law of Christ and to believe that Jesus is the Son of God – only two commandments 🙂 very simple and we keep them through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit of which the fruits are LOVE joy peace patience kindness gentleness faithfulness and self control. If we keep in step with the Spirit we will NOT fulfill the lusts of the flesh. NOT our righteousness through the keeping of the law but Christ’s righteousness through the indwelling of the Spirit is what saves us 🙂

  2. Yeshua was the living Torah, the bread of life. When he says “if you love Me, keep my commandments”, He is saying uphold the law. When he says that “man should not live by bread alone, but by every word the comes from the mouth of Elohim”, he is saying we should uphold the entirety of the law. When he says w are to love Elohim with all our strength, heart, soul, and mind (four ways to love); he is summarizing the first four commandments of the decalog. “Love thy neighbor as thyself” summarizes keeping commandments 5-10.

  3. Yes! We are saved by grace through faith. Our salvation is a gift and cannot be earned by anything that we do. For sure and for certain. As a result of that gift of salvation, we then walk out our faith by keeping the commandments, contained in God’s Law. Keeping the commandments is the fruit of our faith.

  4. Saved by grace, it is a gift, not by works. After we are saved by grace, we then must grow in faith and that is by keeping the commandments of God. Even after salvation, we remain sinners, and we are tested and tempted, and strive to endure to the end.

    1. Thanks for the comment, James! You can find our latest teachings on thewordandtheway.net. Shalom!

  5. I don’t keep the Law to be saved, I obey the Law because I am saved.
    Subtle difference.

  6. James, the Brother of Yeshua tells us that faith without works is dead. Yeshua told us in the parable of the sheep and the goats that the only difference between the sheep and the goats were their works. Both called Him “Lord”, but the goats didn’t do the works necessary to get to Heaven and were cast into Hell. Only Paul tells us that works are not necessary. The True Apostles, that walked with the Lord throughout His ministry are the ones we really need to listen to.

    1. Did Paul say works are not necessary or do people misinterpret him as saying that? His entire ministry was one of works.

  7. We are only saved by the Love and Grace of Yahweh.
By Believing and having Faith in His Son Yeshua The Messiah.
He Is The Way, The Truth And The Life.
As Faithful Followers Of The Way, we are set apart from the world, and led by
The Ruach to keep Yahweh’s Commandments.
