Church leaders, pundits and political figures that tell us what we want to hear and then we fall for them to the point that we can’t see their blatant flaws.
Why does this keep happening? Same as the garden – the serpent deceives.
But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good; abstain from every form of evil. (1Th 5:21-22)
This isn’t just for religious stuff. We have to be diligent in all things, brothers and sisters. Deception is very strong and very alluring. What we think isn’t spiritual always ends up being spiritual. Elizabeth Holmes defrauded immense people and caused others to have physical harm with faulty medical tests. Friedman defrauded financial houses and caused people’s pensions and 401ks to get decimated. Religious cult leaders enrich themselves and abuse authority given to them by their followers. Political leaders who don’t have ethics or a conscience don’t care if they harm the universe as long as they get re-elected. All of these things are incredibly sinful with devastating consequences.
In the end times, there will be false prophets who perform miracles to get people to follow them. At the present time, we as a society keep following false prophets without the miracles. Think about that for a while.
Why are people such suckers for cult followings?
I believe it’s lack of training on how Satan deceives! He has a system and he uses this system over and over again in every arena, religious, political, economical, etc. He used it first to deceive a large portion of the heavenly angels who are now his demonic hordes. He used it with Adam and Eve. He used it with Israel, God’s chosen nation, causing them to live in debauchery and ultimately be deported into captivity! He’s applied it to deceive most all nations. And he has used his system of deception over and over again against the Church!
Satan’s system of deception is revealed in Revelation 6 under the first four seals. He starts out on a white horse attempting to deceive the people that he is the Spirit of Christ. We see his activity with the Jerusalem church in Acts 6. They had an issue arise about providing food for the widows of he church. This issue caused to people to press the Apostles to solve it! The pressure was for one apostle to be the main one that could solve all problems. But the Holy Spirit countered this effort and had the people chose seven men from among themselves.
The key to understanding how Satan works is to realize he always starts with the weaker vessel. Lower angels not Michael, Eve not Adam, Israel (wanting a king) not Samuel, the populace of nations (using disturbances or economic/security distress) not a godly leader, the church people not an apostle or properly appointed leader. This is what the rider of the white horse was accomplishing for the first 300 years of the Church! He rides among the people until he gets them to crown one man that will be in control of those same people. The same rider (the antichrist spirit), being crowned, then switches mounts and rides a red horse with his sword of domination. This “sword” is his own set of dogmas and doctrines that are counter to the Word of God (the true Sword). Think: Roman Catholic Church – the largest cult in Christianity!
